You’re running through the lush, gorgeous lavender fields deep in the region of Provence, France. Rich shades of purple are everywhere you look, and you cannot help but think this is the most beautiful natural scenery you have experienced. You take in the wondrous scent of lavender. All worries wash away, and you can only feel pure bliss in every crevice of your being. This is so nice until….

In-person classes are back people! Not necessarily back and better than ever, but still, back. The truth of the matter is that returning to campus this fall looks a lot different than it used to. Our college school supplies not only include pens and pencils but also masks, and hand sanitizer now. Truth be told, it used to be that we would fake being sick to get out of classes but now everyone is trying everything in their power to attend class in person.

Picture this: it’s freshman year. You’ve been living life to the fullest, enjoying your newly found freedom. You’ve met so many new people, experienced so many new things, and all on your own! You’re an adult now! Woooo! As you open your eyes after a late-night of college experiences, something hits you- something rancid. You start to yell for mom to come fix the odd smell in your room, only to realize mom isn’t there anymore. It’s just you and your stink.

We all know college is expensive. The tuition alone costs an arm and a leg, not to mention that the books, extracurricular activities, and the social life adds up as well. Take me for example, I have gone to private school my entire life however, my mother has never paid full tuition. I, like many other college students am on financial aid. I am so thankful for having financial aid because without it I would not be able to attend the school I do and have the experiences I have had.

If one good thing has come from the internet, it is the idea that we can subscribe to a lifestyle that has no practicality and no resemblance to our real lives. Whether you’re a gamer who casts from the middle of rural Iowa, or a forest fairy living in the big city, you can escape to your dream world through a screen. I would also recommend looking into a semester abroad. A semester abroad, however, may not be feasible for arguably the most popular “core” or lifestyle aesthetic that came out of 2020: Cottagecore.

Pronoia, the opposite of paranoia, is the belief that the universe is conspiring in your favor rather than against you. As students in a world of debt, climate change, and all that other shit you may think you’ll never reach a place where the positives outweigh the negatives. But it’s worth a shot, and it’s the little things that will get you there.

According to a survey conducted with 2,000 Americans, People Magazine reported that 65% of all participants said that they would have “no motivation” to work out without being able to play music. This stat rings true for a lot of people, including myself. In a workout, music provides us some extra motivation; making us push that much harder when one of our favorite songs comes on. Sound tracking your warm-ups and cool downs can also heighten your experience at the gym. Positive messages and songs you love can keep that endorphin-high going long after the actual workout. That’s why when creating the playlist to pair with the scents of AROOMATHERAPY’S Gym Spray, I wanted to take a chronological approach to the order of the songs and workout.

Yes, it’s hot girl summer. But it’s also self-care girl summer, smart girl summer, glowing girl summer, and most certainly sweet almond girl summer! Taking care of yourself should be a priority after the shit show that was 2020 and let’s be honest, kind of 2021 too. As we get back into busy schedules, going out, and (gasp) grimy open air, it would be easy to skip putting on sunscreen, or a quick facemask here and there. It can also be mentally overwhelming after a year of isolation, so taking care of your emotional and physical health is as important as ever. The pandemic may have brought our normal lives to a halt, but that’s in the past and it’s time to glow up!
